Jeff Gordon Out of Retirement Temporarily
When I heard that Jeff Gordon was coming out of retirement I was excited. Then I found out he wasn’t racing in old #24 and ran to the internet to find out more. Jeff Gordon will be racing in Indianapolis on July 24th and July 31st in Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s stock-car #88! Dale Earnhardt Jr. can’t race due to being diagnosed with concession-like symptoms following his wreck at the Coke Zero 400. I am not a huge NASCAR fan, but I do love the drama and the history associated with motor sport.
A retired stock-car driver asked to come back to fight in a 200 mph bump-draft fist fight in a friend’s car because he is too injured to race. It’s a movie plot come to life! Very exciting to see how Jeff Gordon does in #88. Considering that he finished 6th in his last race before retiring this is also a story of second chances and redemption.
Days Of Thunder Come to Life
Does anyone remember seeing the 1990 NASCAR film Days of Thunder starring Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, and Robert Duvall?
Hot shot Indy driver Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) tries his hand at stock-car racing and gets into a nasty wreck with friendemeny driver Rowdy Burns (Michael Rooker). Begins to doubt the weight of his balls behind the wheel of a race car. Drama ensues. Until Rowdy’s head trauma prevents him from racing and asks Cole to drive his stock-car in the last race of the season in order to collect the sponsorship money.
Spoiler Alert: Cole wins and everyone is happy.
Let’s see if Jeff Gordon can deliver a similar ending.
