The DIY Racer Finishes 7th in Her 1st Baja 1000

Christine GZ & Dynamic Racing Overtake Expectations at Baja!

If you still haven’t heard of Christine GZ, the DIY Racer, then you are missing out on an incredible story of ambition and determination. A high-speed pursuit of a dream that won’t take its foot off the gas, but Christine is quickly closing the gap.

The 50th running of the Baja 1000 is over and we are static to write that Christine GZ, and her team Dynamic Racing, not only finished the race but finished in the top 10 in the UTV Pro Turbo class!

After a desert run marathon of 1,134 miles Dynamic Racing crossed the finish line with a time of 33 hours, 3 minutes, and 29 seconds. The CAN-AM X3 off-road vehicle, nicknamed Guacky, carried the team above and beyond their expectations.

Dynamic Racing Baja 1000 Breakdown

Christine and Luy started the Baja 1000 in 18th and drove 320 miles off-road for 10 hours before arriving at Coco’s Corner for driver swap. During those ten hours Guacky ran into trouble when it was half rolled at mile 30. Good Samaritans helped the team put the car back on its right side. Christine and Luy replaced the axle that was damaged in the roll and got back on the trail.

At Coco’s Corner, Paul Kraus and Chad Devine took over and drove for another 310 miles to mile 630. Anthony Perez and Jason Farrell took over after that and drove for 380 miles to reach mile 1010.

Christine, and co-driver Luy, drove for the last 124 miles, and crossed the finish line 7th in their class! The Baja 1000 is not traditional race. The main goal for all teams is keep their machines alive to survive the race. Dynamic racing’s goal for Baja was to just make it to the end, so the fact that they finished, and finished well, says a lot about their ability and skill in off-road endurance racing.

It’s easy to get romantic about racing. Drivers will invest everything they have into this unconventional way of life, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It makes victory so much sweeter.

Finishing well in the Baja 1000, one of the most difficult racing events in the world, is a milestone achievement for Christine and her team. It sets the pace notes for what 2018 will bring. New races, new challenges, higher goals, and faster speeds. With support from MAG LOCK and KC HiLiTES, the future looks fast for the DIY Racer and Dynamic Racing.
