2022 Ford Maverick Engine Options and Performance Stats
Ford offers two engine options for the new 2022 Maverick, and the standard is a hybrid powertrain. A 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with an in-house-designed electric traction motor delivers a combined output of 191-horsepower and 155 lb.-ft. of torque to the front wheels. Towing capacity is rated at 2,000 lbs. with a max payload of 1,500 pounds.
The second engine option is a more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that can tow up to 4,000 lbs and an optional 4K Tow package. Front-wheel drive is standard with available all-wheel drive, and both engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Ford has stated that the new 2022 Ford Maverick will be the first standard full-hybrid pickup in America. It also has an EPA-estimated rating of 40 mpg in the city with 500 miles of range.
What is the 2022 Maverick FLEXBED?
Essentially, FLEXBED allows customers to personalize the Maverick’s 4.5-foot cargo bed the same way one would organize their toolbox – designated storage. It will enable owners to create segmented sections within the cargo bed. FLEXBED also provides 12 anchor points, two 12-volt 20-amp prewired power sources, and two 110-volt outlets. The tailgate is rated to hold up to 500 pounds.
2022 Ford Maverick Interior Features
Unique to the 2022 Ford Maverick’s interior are Ford Integrated Tether Slots (FIT Slots). These FIT Slots create an opportunity for personalization. Press photos show one FIT Slot located in the back of the center console to attract different accessories like a cup holder or storage container. An accessory interior package that will include a storage container, cord organizer, double hooks for hanging purses or grocery bags, and dividers for under-seat storage will be available. Under the rear seat, storage can hold a fully inflated volleyball, making it ideal for hiding valuables like tools and laptop bags.
2022 Ford Maverick Trim Levels
Standard trim levels on the 2022 Ford Maverick will include XL, XLT, and Lariat. An FX4 off-road package will also be available, but only on all-wheel-drive variants and Lariat models. The FX4 package features all-terrain tires, suspension tuning, underbody protection with off-road-focused drive modes, and Hill Descent Control.
Ford will offer a First Edition package exclusively for the 2022 Maverick model year. This package builds on the Lariat trim level with unique exterior graphics, gloss-black painted roof, a soft tonneau cover, and gloss-black machined 18-inch wheels (for the hybrid) or 17-inch aluminum wheels for EcoBoost model. Ford Maverick First Edition color options include Rapid Red, Carbonized Gray, and one color named Area 51.
