A Modern Land Yacht
The revised 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer SUV is a slick, smooth, modern land yacht.
These days it can be tough to spot a full-size SUV among the flood of mid-sizes and crossovers. Yet, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer has everything it needs to stand in its own lane against the Expedition, Tahoe/Suburban, Yukon, and Sequoia.
The model road tested for this review is the long wheelbase L Summit Obsidian. It starts at $94K and sits high among the 9 trim levels. For that price, you get four-wheel-drive, available seating for up to 8 (grown) passengers, and 10,000 pounds of towing capacity.

Updates and Changes to the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Jeep made serious changes to its flagship SUV for 2026. For starters, they are calling it a Jeep again. No more talk about the Grand Wagoneer being its own sidebar brand. The “JEEP” name is back where it belongs, on display across the hood. Moreover, Jeep dropped the standard “Wagoneer,” making every 2026 model year Grand.
Secondly, and rather more importantly, Stellantis lowered the price.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has an entry-level price under $65,000. That’s nearly 20 grand off the previous model. Of course, this wasn’t without sacrifice. Mainly in performance, as the 2026 Grand Wagoneer ditches the high-output 540 hp Hurricane engine for a standard 420-hp output. But if you think that lower number makes the SUV sluggish, you’d be dead wrong.
Other significant updates include new interior materials, three leather upholstery options, and new exterior colors. It also got a facelift with revised front-end styling.
Everything from the bottom of the windshield to the front bumper has been revised for 2026. Changes include a new seven-slot front grille with embedded illumination that creates a full-width light bar effect, plus redesigned air intake vents.

The Power of a Hurricane
As mentioned, the previous Grand Wagoneer models had the 540 hp high-output twin-turbocharged Hurricane six. For 2026, the entire lineup uses the 3.0L Hurricane standard output, producing 420 hp and 468 lb.-ft of torque with an 8-speed transmission. That many ponies are enough for one heck of a rodeo.

Kick the throttle and brace for the surge of twin-turbo spooling acceleration. This fuselage-shaped SUV takes off, muscling through the air like a nuclear submarine diving. It moves with the agility of a hippo out of the water, sprinting from 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds. It also makes a satisfying, raspy buzz, like a chain-smoking honeybee.
Add the optional Heavy-Duty Towing package ($1,995), and the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer offers a class-leading 10,000-pound towing capacity.

2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Interior Features
The Grand Wagoneer Summit Obsidian shown came with a host of interior amenities.
The interior features dark Palermo leather and options such as massaging front seats, fully autonomous parking assist, and a standard 23-speaker McIntosh audio system. Other high-end interior features include a tri-pane sunroof offering a skylight for third-row passengers and four-zone climate controls.

The 12-inch screen looks proportional to the rest of the dashboard. A secondary digital panel screen underneath gives it a real space-age reminder that we are in the future. I especially like the James Bond-style hidden compartment, accessed by pressing a button that lifts the digital panel screen like a clamshell. I love those kinds of details, creative practicality.
The giant dial rotary gear selector isn’t plastic. It’s metal and feels secure in a way only a heavy, sturdy material can feel. The steering wheel is an ergonomic pillow for the hands. Soft and comfortable for hands of all sizes. The luxurious power steering makes tight maneuvers in this long wheelbase SUV feel effortless as you palm the wheel like a boat captain.

Third-row seating is comfortable and spacious. I could sit without needing to take off my cowboy hat. I also had a passenger who stood over six feet tall to sit in the third row with me, and our knees and elbows never touched. The long wheelbase L model offers substantial interior space and cargo room. Fold down the second- and third-row seats, and it’s practically a camper.
The optional Premium Interior Package ($2,195) adds ventilated second-row seats, a digital rear-view mirror, a reversible cargo mat, and a foldable cargo shade. It also includes a “front passenger interactive display”, which is a digital screen above the glove box.

This screen is great for a wow factor but not practical in an age when people carry a screen in their pockets. Same story with the optional Rear Seat Entertainment package ($2,595), cool but increasingly obsolete.

2026 Grand Wagoneer Styling is Superb
The photos show this 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L Summit Obsidian in a two-tone Bright White with black. It rides on a set of 22-inch “Black Noise” gloss wheels as standard. Part of the changes to the Grand Wagoneer for 2026 is no chrome. Instead, Jeep made the environmentally conscious decision to opt for bright or dark silver metallic finishes.
New exterior colors added to the lineup include a rich Dark Ruby Red and Fathom Blue. Personally, I think a shade of green would be a delightful addition.

Colors aside, the overall exterior design is superior to its full-size competitors. Its fuselage design is clean but elegant, like a Chrysler from the early 1970s. It looks like a proper land yacht, long and sleek.
2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Driving Impressions
One interesting note on the 2026 Grand Wagoneer is that four-wheel drive isn’t standard on entry-level models. It’s available as an option, as is the Quadra-Lift adjustable suspension. These come standard on Summit models. The logic is sound because some buyers probably won’t be interested in taking this SUV off-road.
The Grand Wagoneer is more SUV than Jeep. It can go off-road, but its size makes it a tight squeeze on narrow trails compared to Jeep’s golden boy Wrangler or the mid-sized Grand Cherokee.

Where the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer shines is on the open road. It rides like a new pair of sneakers. The soft, pillowy ride glides down the road, eating up miles while massaging your glutes and lumbar. It’s a big SUV that doesn’t intimidate. You never feel like it’s “too big” because you sit high up and have a clear view over the hood, with giant windows that help minimize rear blind spots.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is so smooth and easy to drive that you forget you’re driving a long-wheelbase SUV. That is until you notice the movie-theater-aisle distance between the driver’s seat and the rear window.

Off-Road, it lives up to the Jeep name. It feels at home thanks to its Quadra-Lift adjustable suspension, which increases ground clearance by up to 3.6 inches depending on the terrain mode.
Quick access to exterior cameras ensures you’ll never lose track of where you’re going and where you’ve been. Other full-size SUVs with 4×4 capability can feel like Andre the Giant trying ballet, but the Grand Wagoneer feels feather-light and unbothered by uneven terrain.

2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Fuel Economy is Better Than Expected
The fuel economy surprised me. This beautiful behemoth can hold its drink longer than I expected. The EPA rating for the 2026 Grand Wagoneer is 18 mpg overall, with 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, running on regular gas.
Earlier in the summer, I test drove this SUV while towing a 5,600-pound Airstream trailer on rural back roads and highways. The Hurricane engine handled the weight with ease. I also noted that the fuel gauge showed a range of 283 miles with three-quarters of a tank left.

An All-Star SUV
Jeep made a lot of calculated changes to improve the Grand Wagoneer for 2026, and they succeeded. Among the big leagues of full-size SUVs, this is an all-star. It has power, muscle, style, and luxury.
