Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Netflix picked up the show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee late last year, but the show was born on the internet in July 2012. The show is currently working on its tenth season with guests stars Dave Chappelle, Tracy Morgan, and Ellen DeGeneres.

Jerry Seinfeld even mentioned in August 2017 that there was an unaired Jerry Lewis episode shot in Las Vegas.

The Lawsuit

Recently, producer Christian Charles who claims he came up with the idea for CCGC 16 years ago. That he pitched the idea to Seinfeld but he didn’t show any interest until 2011. After Charles helped produce the first episode Charles claims he was not given creative credit or financial stake. Now he is suing for, as George would say, reparations since he claims the show is earning Seinfeld $750,000 per episode!

(Sorry for the Costanza reference, I couldn’t help myself)

Seinfeld’s attorney Orin Snyder has since given a statement to TMZ about this lawsuit saying:

“This lawsuit is delusional. Jerry independently created ‘Comedians in Cars’ and Mr. Charles only concocted this claim after the show became a commercial success. We are confident that this shakedown lawsuit will go nowhere.”

Charles is credited in one episode of season 1, so is this really a shakedown or merely surface rust to a larger problem?
